Heavy metal contamination represents a persistent environmental problem at many toxic waste sites. In the United States, the most commonly occurring metals at Superfund sites are lead, chromium, arsenic, zinc, cadmium, copper, and mercury. Chelok binds many of these metals and many rare earth elements for extraction, recovery and reuse.
