How It Works
Inside the storm
One continuous flow path, two mechanisms, zero added steps.
01 Tangential Inlet
Water enters the housing through a tangential inlet, forcing it into a spinning, cyclonic motion.
02 Cyclonic Separation
Centrifugal force flings heavier solids against the vessel’s inner wall, settling them out of suspension before the water ever reaches the cartridge.
03 Upflow Through MetalXtract®
The pre-separated water travels upward through the cartridge, where Chelok® polymer chemistry binds dissolved metal ions on contact.

Harmsco Technology
Hurricane® Housing
Hurricane® is Harmsco’s patented filter housing design that combines cyclonic separation and cartridge filtration with upflow technology in a single unit.
Instead of forcing water straight through a cartridge, Hurricane® purposefully pre-treats the water mechanically before it reaches the filter media, extending cartridge life and keeping the system running longer between service intervals.

Periodic Products Technology
Chelok® & MetalXtract®
Chelok® polymers are patented, non-toxic and water insoluble, engineered at the molecular level to capture and bind metal ions through direct chemical binding rather than physical filtration alone.
MetalXtract® Filter Media puts that chemistry into a format built for real-world, high-flow filtration systems, binding ionic metals including iron, copper, cobalt, lead, mercury, rare earths and many others.

Why HurricaneX™
No more trade-offs
High flow or precision metal removal. Never both?
Most filtration systems force a trade-off. HurricaneX™ removes it. Now you can filter high volumes while meeting the strictest metal-removal standards, in a variety of settings.
Unlike ion exchange (IX) resins, which can be consumed by common ions such as calcium, sodium and magnesium, Chelok® polymers largely ignore these ions, supporting faster removal and higher effective capacity.

Periodic Products was founded in 2009 to address a persistent challenge in water treatment: removing heavy metals, including rare earth elements, from water, soil and ash rapidly, efficiently and with low environmental impact.
Its patented Chelok® polymer chemistry is designed to chemically bind and remove metal ions across a broad range of real-world water conditions, including high TDS and both low and high pH.
Founded in 1958 in West Palm Beach, Florida, Harmsco has spent over 67 years engineering filtration systems built to perform under real-world demands. It began with the invention of the first pleated polyester filter cartridge.
Still family-owned and now led by its third generation, Harmsco manufactures every housing in-house at its Florida facility.
